Pastel Society of Tampa Bay September meeting

Dear Pastel Society Members,

We hope you have had a wonderful summer full of painting.

Your board has been busy continuing the work started by our first president Gail Gamble. 1) We have sent off the application to the International Pastel Society to become a member society. 2) We have worked to prepare a proposal for the Tampa Museum to host a National Pastel Show in early 2011. Cathy Morgan has been able to get Doug Dawson to agree to jury the show and do a workshop for us.

September 11 Our first meeting will be a POTLUCK DINNER6 pm at Anneke Hulstein’s Home 772-7851

3070 Oak Creek Drive (from19 go east on Curlew to Landmark. Turn south and go to the second left. That is Oak Creek Drive. Anneke’s home is about 5 houses in on the left side.)

This will be a business meeting . Your $25 dues will be collected. If not paid in September they will go up $10 as a late fee. You can mail them to our treasurer Karen Baker, P O Box 815, Safety Harbor, 34695 or bring them to the meeting.

Meeting Minutes

April 17, 2008

The third meeting of the Pastel Society of Tampa Bay (2007-2008) was held at the Montage Gallery in Dunedin. President, Gail Gamble, started the meeting with announcements.
Saturday, May 17, we will meet from 9am to 3pm at the entrance to John Chesnut Sr. Park (formerly Brooker Creek Park) for a day of plein-air painting. Remember to bring your lunch.
When we start meeting again in the fall, we will have a PAINT AROUND with groups of five people working on each others painting and rotating every 20 minutes. Karen Baker brought the idea from the Southwest Pastel Society.
Lastly we discussed the need for new officers for 2008-2009. Virginia LaTourrette suggested that we rotate through the positions to keep a flow of information going. With this idea in mind we discussed the board and asked for volunteers at the end of the meeting.

Then Mary Louise Pollock introduced the owner of Montage Gallery, Dana Rizzuto. He had prepared a handout for each person explaining proper framing. His talk was helpful and informative.

During refreshments we were able to create a slate of officers and committee chairs for next year. If any one would like to add their name to the list please email Gail Gamble at gailnoelfg@aol.com by May 5, 2008.

April Meeting - Framing Pastels

Dear Pastelists; We had a busy February with our 2 shows and meeting, rested in March, and now we've regrouped and are ready to go again for our last 2 activities of the year!

Date of Meeting: April 17th, 2008 at 7:30 pm

A lot of you have expressed an interest in Framing Techniques for Pastels. Dana, the owner of Montage Gallery, will present a program on this subject. Get rid of dirty mats for good and and learn how to present your artwork in a professional manner. Besides custom framing, Dana has developed a method to produce standard frames for pastelists and he will show you how to inset your work.

Montage Gallery is at 2194 Main Street, Suite D, Dunedin. They are located 1 block west of Belcher on the north side of Main St. (St Rd. 580).

Hope to see you there.

Pastel Society of Tampa Bay Meeting at Ernie Simmons' Studio

Tuesday February 12, 2008

The second meeting of the Pastel Society of Tampa Bay was held at the studio of Ernie Simmons in Dunedin. President Gail Gamble had a short business meeting. Future proposed events are a paint out at Brooker Creek Park and a general meeting at the DFAC to include instructions on framing. Ernie Simmons added that he is on the committee for shows at the park and will be glad to help us display our paintings there.

Next a drawing for 4 pastel boards was held. The company has asked for feed back about the boards from the winners.

Gail then introduced Ernie, and we had an open question and answer session about the experiences Ernie has had establishing himself as a successful artist. He was very open and honest about his discoveries along the way. He offered us help, advice, and delicious food and drinks. As a small gift of appreciation Gail gave him a large parrot kite to mark his studio along the trail.

We still need all members to help us find a location for our show in the fall. Please send any and all ideas to us ASAP.

WE NEED ALL MEMBERS TO PICK UP THEIR ART WORK AT THE DUNEDIN COMMUNITY CENTER ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 29TH FROM 9-12.
