DEBORAH PARIS- Workshop at Fredericksburg Artists School
Paint The Idea> Landscape > Pastel/Oil
January 14 - 18, 2008
Tuition $525
Deborah’s article “Paint the Idea” which appeared in the December 2005 issue of /American Artist Magazine will form the basis for this class. Learning to paint abstract visual ideas rather than copying objects in the landscape is the key to more compelling authentic work. In this five day class Deborah will use lectures, slide shows, painting exercises and demonstrations to teach you how to think about composition, values, color harmony and surface quality as devices to communicate an underlying concept or idea for each painting.
The goal will be to paint 3-4 small studies each day.
Daily demonstrations in oil and pastel will focus on the topic covered in that day’s presentation /lecture. Color selection/mixing demonstrations will open your eyes to the use of color as an important tool in conveying the mood and emotion which is the difference between technically competent work and emotionally powerful art.
